HERRIN-Madelin Melvin, 91, died 8:45 A.M., Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Park Avenue Health Care Home in Herrin.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at the San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. The Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday evening. The Daughters of Isabella following the Rosary will conduct ceremonial services.
Memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church or the St. Mary's School Foundation.
Mrs. Melvin was born December 27, 1910 at Clinton, Indiana to Joseph & Louisa (Gribaudi) DeZutti.
She married Virgil Henry "Bird" Melvin on July 5, 1948 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2002.
Madelin was the owner & operator of Madelin's Beauty Shop in Herrin for over 52 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She also was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the OLMC choir. She was a charter member of the Business & Professional Women's Club in Herrin. Member of Herrin American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also was the first female business owner that was a member of the Herrin Chamber of Commerce.
