Mae Pedigo Stafford, age 89, of Marion, died Monday, July 9th at 1:59 P.M. at Marion Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Visitation for Mrs. Stafford will be from 5:00-9:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 11th at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 12th with Rev. Shaw DeMent officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery, located east of Ozark, Illinois. Memorials for Mrs. Stafford may be made to the Marion Senior Citizens Center. She was born February 7, 1912 in Marion to Joseph F. and Ida Belle (Gurley) Pedigo. They preceded her in death. She married John Wesley Quayle Stafford on September 12, 1931 in Harrisburg. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1987. Mrs. Stafford was retired after working as a Psychiatric Attendant Nurse for twenty years at Ypsilanti State Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. Her association with the Baptist Church was of the utmost importance to her. She was a longtime member of Parish Park Baptist Church in Marion. She was very family oriented and treasured her time spent with her children and grandchildren. She spent many years gathering the genealogy records of the Stafford, Pedigo, and Gurley families for her family to treasure. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Stanley & Margaret of Marion, Thomas & Marilyn of Chelsea, Michigan, John & Elsa of Grass Lake, Michigan, and Lowell & Mary of Ypsilanti, Michigan; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, two sisters, and six grandchildren.
