Mae Elizabeth Simmerman

Mae Elizabeth Simmerman, age 96, of Marion, Illinois, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 at Parkway Manor in Marion, Illinois.

Mae was born November 28, 1927 in Marion, Illinois, a daughter of Charles and Lillian (Foster) Boyer. She attended Washington Grade School in Marion. She married Laverne "Barney" Simmerman on May 05, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mae and Barney started a family of five children. She worked as a Housekeeper and was very close to her clients and their families. Mae and her cousin Lucy Sprague, enjoyed attending the Country Dances at the Boulevard Street Community Center. Mae watched her grand kids at her home and loved spending time with them. She liked to cook meals and was an excellent baker of pies and cakes. Watching birds was a pastime she enjoyed.

She is survived by three children, Kay B. (Lindell) Hickey of Marion, IL, Tammy L. (Robert) Walters of Marion, IL, and BJ (Kelly) Simmerman of Marion, IL; 11 grandchildren ; 12 great-grandchildren plus one expected this year; and several geat-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Laverne "Barney" Simmerman; two daughters, Patsy A. Martin and Janice M. Horsley; her parents, Charles and Lillian Boyer; and two sisters, Betty Heyde and Alma Neber.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024, 1:00 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Hood officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion.
