Marcus Eugene Triplett went home to Our Lord and joined his loving wife Lela on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009. He was 91.
He was born to the late Omer & Minnie Triplett on Aug. 3, 1918 in Herrin, IL. He later moved to Texas where he resided for the last 35 years. He served his country in the United States Army overseas during WWII. He received the Bronze Star. He was a longstanding member of the VFW in Herrin and Corpus Christi, TX. He enjoyed the beach, fishing, and watching westerns. His most memorable times were spent with his children, grandchildren, and many friends. No one was a stranger, he was known by everyone as Grandpa. He will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him. He was a strong, generous, loving man that was respected and adored by his family. He was our Hero!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years and the love of his life, Lela Bain Triplett. Four Brothers; Tommy, Woodrow, Harold, and Leonard. Three Sisters; Pearl, Halene, and Leona. Two Sons, PVT 1st Class Marcus Triplett USMC, Infant son Timothy; One Grandson; Jason Bradley.
He is survived by two brothers and one sister in-law; Dennis Triplett of Herrin, and Robert and Jaunita Triplett and their family of Herrin. One son, Larry Triplett, Sandia, TX. Two daughters and sons in-law; Brenda & Richard Bradley, Sandia , TX, Barbara & Mike Ritacco, McHenry, IL. Ten grandchildren; Tena Glasford Fielding & George, Linda Glasford Doud, Corpus Christi, TX, Jennifer Scelzo, Ironwood, MI, Michael Ritacco, McHenry, IL, Terri & David Shell, Fort Branch, IN, Tim & Tammy Glasford, Wynnewood, OK, Rick & Shawna Bradley, Sinton, TX, Marc & Jenny Ritacco, McHenry, IL, Nicole Triplett, Rolling Meadows, IL, Mark Triplett, Chicago, IL, One special daughter in-law, Frannie, Chicago, IL, and 24 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of the life of Gene Triplett will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31st at the Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, IL. Family will be receiving friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Rev. Don Colson and Rev. Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tim Glasford, Marcus Triplett, Nathan Pardue Glasford, Zachariah Thibodeaux, Marcus Glasford, & Kevin Robbins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shawn Donavon, Johnny Nicolini, David Shell, Gary McCalla, & Doug McCalla. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts.
