Margaret Ann High

May 28, 1925 — April 7, 2020

Margaret Ann High, age 94, of Marion, passed away at 7:17am on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Sunshine Gardens in Marion.

Margaret was born in Anna on May 28, 1925, the daughter of Frank S. and Ruth Ann (Lieb) Alden. She married Robert Franklin High in Cobden on May 17, 1946. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2002.

Margaret had worked as an executive secretary at the Morris Library at Southern Illinois University, retiring in 1982.  After her husband’s retirement in 1987, they began living part-time in Sebring, Florida. In 1999, they made the permanent move to Florida. After Bob’s death in 2002, she stayed in Sebring until 2004, returning to live in Marion to be close to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, where she enjoyed watching the younger ones grow.

Mrs. High was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion. Margaret enjoyed golf but her favorite pastime was playing Duplicate Bridge, and she was happy to travel many miles to play with her favorite partners.

Daughter and Son-in-law- Cathy and George Soldner of Marion

Six Grandchildren- Hillary and Jose Renda of Marion

     Brittany and James Moseman of Marion

     Ryan and Laura High of Glen Carbon

     Matthew Soldner of Collinsville

     Andrew Soldner of Marion

     Colin and Taylor Soldner of Olathe, Kansas

Eight Great Grandchildren- Gabriel, Isabella, and Gianna Renda

     Isaac and Ian Moseman

     Connor, Alex, and Dylan High

Niece- Linda Brinkley of East Alton

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother- Dr. Blair Alden.

Memorial services will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Wade Halva officiating. Burial will follow in Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Marion First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
