Carterville- Margaret Maxine Leeper, 80, of Carterville, formerly of Freeburg, passed away at 1:15 AM, Sunday, January 16, 2005 at her home with her family by her side.
Margaret was born on January 31, 1924 in Carterville to Vince & Stella (Bracey) Gooden. She married Floyd Vernon Leeper on July 25, 1947 in Piggott, Arkansas. He survives of Carterville.
Mrs. Leeper formerly worked at Universal Match years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking down home food for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed craftwork such as crocheting, knitting, and quilt work. Margaret was a people person who always enjoyed a crowd. She and Vernon liked to travel and have been to all but five states together. She was an active member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star in Freeburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son; Rodger Dale Leeper, two brothers; William & Gene Gooden and one sister; Zella Childers.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Burial will follow at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 PM, Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will also be conducted at 7:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
