Marguerite Hampton

Herrin- Marguerite Hampton, 85, of Herrin, passed away at 8:00 AM, Sunday, February 27, 2005 at home. Marguerite was born on June 15, 1919 in Sesser to Oliver Shorty & Maggie (Brown) Walker. She married Virgil Hampton in 1938. They were married sixty-seven years. Prior to her retirement in 1982, Marguerite was co-owner/administrator of Hampton Nursing Manor (now known as Shawnee Christian Nursing Center) in Herrin. She was an attending member of Abundant Life Assembly of God in Marion. SURVIVORS: Husband- Virgil Hampton- Herrin Son & daughter in law- Larry & Judy Kay Hampton- Columbia, MO Son & daughter in law- Richard & Susan Hampton- of the local area Daughter & son in law- Tamra & Jim Nashman- Naples, FL Six Grandchildren: Tony Hampton- Bethalto, IL Theresa Metz- Bethalto, IL Rachel Hampton Gebhardt- Tampa, FL Shane Hampton- OFallon, IL Meagan Nashman- Naples, FL Jordan Nashman- Naples, FL Seven Great- Grandchildren Sister- Marcella Johnson- Evansville, IN Brother in law- Harold Brown- Evansville, IN Sister in law- Norma Walker- St. Louis, MO Sister in law- Annable Walker- Cottage Hills, IL She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Malvola Brown, and brothers; Val & Oliver Walker. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Abundant Life Assembly of God in Marion. Pastor Jeff Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
