Herrin- (Cora) Marie Bruns, 83, of Herrin, died at 6:35 PM, Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at Marion Memorial Hospital. Marie was born on April 16, 1919 in Cerulean Springs, KY to Herman & Josie (Pollard) Blythe. She married Bernard R. Bruns in May of 1944 in Pinckneyville. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1984. Mrs. Bruns retired in 2001 as owner of Gingerbread Corner Antiques in Carterville. She formerly worked as an administrative assistant at Paul Brown Insurance Agency. Marie dearly enjoyed antiquing and spending time having fun with her family and friends. Marie graduated from Pinckneyville High School where she served as valedictorian. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and was involved with the Daughters of Isabella. She also served as an Officer for the Catholic Youth Organization in Carbondale. SURVIVORS: Dtr & son in law- Linda & Ralph Smithson- Redwood City, CA Son & dtr in law- Richard & Margie Bruns- West Springfield, MA Granddaughter- Elizabeth & husband Kenneth Ogden- Carterville Granddaughter- Britta Bruns- Herrin Great-Grandchild- Kyler Cy Ogden- Carterville Many nieces & nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers; Gailon & Bill Blythe. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 23, 2002 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 6-9:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
