Marion- Marie McCluskie, 97, of Marion, passed away at 2:35AM, Friday, January 14, 2011 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Marie was born in Harrisburg on April 25, 1913, the daughter of I.E. and Lillie Ann (Alsup) Simmons. She married Alex Buster McCluskie in Marion on April 18, 1931. He preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Scottsboro Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was church secretary, sang in the choir and went to Prayer and Share group.
Marie enjoyed fishing and camping and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her blackberry cobbler, orange salad and famous biscuits and gravy. She was spontaneous and witty and always up for an adventure. She enjoyed travel and telling stories about her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers- Hollie, Delbert, Frank, Jimmy, Clifford and Glen Simmons and four sisters- Nellie Knight, Mary Lynn Simmons, Marbia Holderfield and Martha Alene Butler.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service, Saturday at the funeral home.
