Marjorie A. Almaroad, age 93, of Goreville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Parkway Manor in Marion, Illinois.
Marjorie was born April 12, 1931 in Pulleys Mill, a daughter of Charles E. and Thelma (Short) Meneese. She attended Meneese School and graduated Marion High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at Kimmel Auto Supply. She married Ray Almaroad Jr. on September 24, 1949 in Marion, IL, and they lived on Meneese property that had been in the family over 100 years. Marjorie worked at Norge in Herrin and raised her sons. She retired from Norge and worked as a Seamstress doing alterations and making clothes and wedding dresses. She was very artistic and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting and general sewing. She took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Ray (Becky) Almaroad of Marion, IL, Russell Dale (Tammy) Almaroad of Marion, IL, and Ronald Dean Almaroad of Goreville, IL; six grandchildren, Kristy M. (Greg) Barnes, Carrie R. Almaroad (Mike Watson), Tony A. (Mindy) Almaroad, Sarah E. (Zack) Boykin, Chad D. (Miranda) Almaroad, Aubri J. (Ricardo) Andrade; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jaci K. (Ryan) Vaughn, Avery M. Barnes, Addison K. Barnes, Alexandra F. Barnes, Allie J. Watson, Jaxon X. Vick, Noah Bliss, Raegan Vick, Evelyn Almaroad, Henry Almaroad, Mason Savant, Tyarra (Joseph) McPeak, and Blake Watson; three great-great-grandchildren, Alyvia Vaughn, Braelyn McPeak, and Oaklynn Vaughn; and one sister, Meriel (Tom) Kelton of St. Charles, MO. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray Almaroad Jr.; son, Everett Ray Almaroad; daughter-in-law Cherie Almaroad; her parents, Charles Everett and Thelma Meneese; and one sister, Sharon Meneese.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 23rd, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home and again Monday June 24 from 10:00 -11:00 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24, 2024, 11:00 AM at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will follow at Meneese Cemetery in Goreville.
