Martha Alene Butler

Martha Alene Butler, 93, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008 at 8:20 P.M. at her home in Johnston City. Martha was born March 7, 1915 the daughter of Iseck Eli & Lillie Ann (Alsip) Simmons in Thebes, Illinois. She married Hugh Glenn Butler on August 12, 1939 in Benton, Kentucky and together they shared almost 60 years of marriage until his death on June 7, 1999. Martha was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Herrin and she was retired from McDonald Douglas Corporation in St. Louis. Survivors include: Sister Marie McCluskie of Marion Several nieces and nephews Several great nieces and nephews Preceded by Parents, Husband, Hugh, Son, Robert Glenn Butler, Six Brothers, Hollie, Delbert, Frank, Jimmy, Clifford and Glen Simmons and Three Sisters, Nellie Knight, Marbia Holderfield and Marlyn Simmons. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Ron Henwood and Rev. Keith Sproat officiating. Burial will follow in Elkville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the 1st Christian Church.
