Marion- Martha Louisa Schafale, 88, of Marion, died at 12:07 AM, Friday, December 28, 2001 at Holly Hills Room & Board in Marion. Martha was born on April 22, 1913 in Marion to Samuel & Maude (Lee) Fuller. She married George Schafale on October 16, 1933 in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1978. She was a 1932 graduate of Marion Township High School. She was a homemaker and worked also at the Marion Veterans Administration Hospital Canteen Service from 1973 until her retirement in 1985. She was former co-owner and operator of Schafale Kennels & Antiques, located at 712 E. Main in Marion for over forty years. Mrs. Schafale was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. SURVIVORS: Dau & son in law- Sonja S. & O.J. Ortlieb- Chilton, WI Dau & son in law- Linda "Mikie" & Lynn Holmes- Marion Five Grandchildren: Michelle Gesell- Marion Jennifer & husband Bart Lincoln- Marion Darren & wife Misty Holmes- Marion Nichole Lynn Holmes- Nashville, TN Tracie & husband Tray Burch- Cooper City, FL Ten Great Grandchildren Daughter in law- Susie Schafale- Ft. Lauderdale, FL Sister in law- Ruby Grady Reed- Marion Cousin- Esther Henderson Troxel- Marion She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son; Charles Michael Schafale, one granddaughter; Christine Marie Schafale, half brothers; Lloyd & Everett Reed, half sisters; Gertrude Reeves and Mabel Parks. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2001 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. A private family graveside funeral service will be held Sunday at Rosehill Cemetery in Marion. Rev. William Edward Schmidt, Pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Marion, will officiate the service. "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God" Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
