Martha "Ruth" Deaton

RUTH DEATON Marion- Martha Ruth Deaton, age 92, of Marion, passed away at 7:48pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Herrin Hospital. Ruth was born in Cobden on April 23, 1918, the daughter of Delbert H. and Leona (Weiss) Cast. She married Chester Deaton in Cape Girardeau on October 12, 1940. Together, they shared forty three years of marriage, until his death on May 22, 1983. Ruth was a member of the Marion Second Baptist Church. She retired from housekeeping at Marion Memorial Hospital in 1986 and was then an active volunteer member of the hospital auxiliary for several years. Survivors include- Two sister-in-laws- Mildred Cast of Marion, IL Helen Cast of St Peters, MO Special nieces and nephews- Patricia Shasteen of Golconda, IL Jim Adams of Marion, IL Don Cast of Conway, AR Carolyn Killman of Marion, IL Sam Cast of St Charles, MO Sue Baker of Casper, WY Joann Hudgens of Herrin, IL Several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister- Connie Adams, three brothers- Eugene, Leon, and Virgil Peck Cast, who was killed during World War II, and her special friend- Joe Odum. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11am on Saturday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
