Herrin- MARY ALICE (CERNEY) HARVEL, age 98, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 2:35pm on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin with her family at her side.
Mary was born in Saratoga, IL on March 19, 1910, the daughter of James and Dora (Lence) Cerney. She married Vernon Jenkins in 1934. From this union came two children- Dolores Sharlot of Northbrook and Kenneth Jenkins of Herrin. Vernon preceded her in death. She later married George Harvel in 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Harvel was a faithful member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker and dearly loved her family and friends. She loved to garden.
Survivors include-
One Son and Daughter-In-Law- Ken and Carol Jenkins of Herrin, IL
One Daughter- Dolores Sharlot of Chicago, IL
Eight grandchildren- Liz Sharlot of Mississippi, Jackie Sharlot of Arizona, Tammy Einis of Oregon, Laurence Sharlot of Arizona, Danny Jenkins of Herrin, Terri Jenkins of Herrin, Darin Marlow of St Louis, and David Marlow of Georgia
Five great grandchildren-Samantha Sharlot, Jenna and Jack Marlow, David and Amy Marlow
Two brothers- Bill and Barbara Cerney of Joliet, IL and Louie and Virginia Cerney of Anna, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and five brothers and three sisters.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Anna City Cemetery in Anna with Pastor Paul Tirey officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
