Makanda- Mary Evelyn Brown, 82, of Makanda, formerly of Thompsonville, passed away at 6:55 PM, Friday, May 17, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Mary was born on June 4, 1930 in Tuthill, South Dakota to H. and Lottie (Phelps) Vaught. She married James Altern Brown in November of 1959. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1986.
She was a homemaker in her own home and formerly worked for Eli Lily Company in Indianapolis prior to marriage. She was protestant and enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors going on long walks and hiking with her family. She enjoyed farm life and all that went with it and travelling to see her relatives and old homestead. She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include-Daughter- Linda Balbach and husband Steve of Bloomington, IL; Daughter- Teresa Barnes and husband Greg of Bloomington, IL; Daughter- Lisa Brown of Makanda; Seven grandchildren: Sara and Bryan; Joshua and Brianna; Ronald, Aaron and Brittany; Four great grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Bloomington, IL and inurnment will follow at Phelps Family Cemetery in Stabb, KY. Memorial arrangements were made by Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
