Herrin- Mary Lance Osborn, 94, of Herrin, passed away at 7:00 AM, Monday, June 15, 2009 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Mary was born on May 18, 1915 in Cabot, VT to Walter Byron & Mamie Louise (Bates) Lance. She married Gordon Richmond Osborn on December 26, 1946 in Vergennes, VT. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2003. Mary was a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont and studied under Robert Frost in English. She taught in the English Department of Herrin High School for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin. In her spare time she enjoyed singing with her friends at Parkway Estates. She was devoted to her friends and family and liked to collect antiques. Survivors include- Son- Jim Osborn & wife Mary Jo of Carterville Son- Randy Osborn of Carbondale Grandchildren: Chris Osborn & wife Christy of Omaha, NE Adam Osborn & wife Melinda of Springfield, IL Tom Osborn & wife Kaitlin of Mason, OH Great Grandchildren: Truman Osborn Thomas Osborn Henry Osborn Lucy Osborn Hannah Osborn Plus one on the way Close Nephew- Dr. Ken Lance & wife Priscilla of Naples, FL Close Niece- Veronica Kinela & husband Richard of New Haven, CT She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister- Doris Hamel & one brother- Elton Lance. A memorial service will be held at a later date at East Shoreham Cemetery in Vermont. Memorial arrangements were made by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 South 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
