Herrin- Mary M. Vansaghi, 92, of Herrin, passed away at 5:15 AM, Monday, May 12, 2008 at her home in Herrin.
Mary was born on December 9, 1915 in Herrin (at the same house she passed away in) to Caesar & Gina (Zoyia) Vansaghi. When she was younger she translated books for the blind and cleaned houses. During WWII she worked the powder line at Olin Corp, but retired from Norge after working thirty years in the machine shop.
She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers and reading. She looked forward to time spent with her great nieces and nephews making sandwiches and caring for them and Salimeat Parties held in her basement with family and her bother Charlie.

Great Nephew- William Bill Carnaghi and wife Lisa of Energy
Great Niece- Mary Ellen Smith & husband Mark of Energy
Great Nephew- John Carnaghi of Herrin
Great Great Niece- Dolores Carnaghi of Austin, TX
Cousin- Louise Speroni of Herrin
Caregivers- La Donna Bennett, Elaine Claunch, Donna Schmitto & Brenda Lentz
Hospice volunteer- Ruth Ann Birch
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother- Charlie Vansaghi, sister- Rosie Carnaghi and one infant brother and sister.
The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of service Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
