Mary Modena Simmons

Marion- Mary Modena Simmons, 87, of Marion died at 6:30 A.M., Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Friendship Care Center in Herrin. Modena was born on July 23, 1914 in Goreville, IL to Harry Curtis & Lula (Parrish) Craig. She married Ray Simmons on March 14, 1931 in Marion. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1996. Mrs. Simmons worked as manager of the curtain department at W. T. Grant Department Store in Marion and then retired from fabric department at Wal-Mart in Marion. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Marion, and was a longtime Adult Sunday school Teacher there. She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union. Survivors: Son & dtr in law- Bob R. & Virginia Simmons- Minooka, IL Three Granddaughters: Carla & husband Rob Bateson- Joliet, IL Rhonda Stroud- Charleston, SC Stephanie Lynne & husband Tom Korilko- Coal City, IL Seven Great Grandchildren Four Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother; Paul Craig. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Joy Tilson-Stroud of Charleston will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Marion Second Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
