Mary Virginia Holmes

Marion Mary Virginia Holmes, 86, died at 6:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 in Whispering Oaks Retirement Home. Mary was born on June 30, 1918 in Holland, Missouri to Noble Henry and Hettie Mae (Stone) Capehart. She married Finis E. Holmes, Jr. on December 31, 1937 in Steele, Missouri and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1998. She was retired, having worked for F.E. Homes Construction for 32 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Survivors include: Son and Daughter in law Lynn and Mikie Holmes of Marion Daughter and Son in law Marsha J. and Jim Shotton of Marion Six Grandchildren and their spouses: Darren and Misty Holmes, Craig and Kelly Shotton, Michelle Gesell, Jennifer and Bart Lincoln, Melanie and Jeff Pecord all of Marion and Nichole and Erick Murphy of Nashville, Tenn. Fourteen (14) Great Grandchildren; One (1) brother Pinnell Capehart of Holland, MO and One (1) sister Ruby Lynn Hudson of Chattanooga, Tenn. Her parents, one brother, Noble Coleman Capehart and three sisters Evelyn Moon, Glenda Smith and Dana Slintz preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church General Fund or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
