Herrin- Marylee McCree, 94, of Herrin, passed away peacefully at 2:51 AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Herrin Hospital. Marylee was born on November 14, 1914 on McAlpin Hill in Rural Williamson County to Raymond & Kate (McAlpin) Alexander. She married Alvin McCree at a friends home in Marion on October 7, 1933. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1989. She retired from Smoler Brothers in Herrin where she worked for many years as a supervisor. Marylee was a lifetime member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. Her grandfather, John McAlpin, built the church many, many years ago. She taught Sunday school for sixty years and formerly served as church secretary. Mrs. McCree enjoyed sewing, craftwork, cooking and spending time with friends and family when she was able. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Survivors include- Son- Robert McCree of Christopher Son & daughter in law- Dennis & Margie McCree of Energy Eight Grandchildren: Steve McCree & wife Susie of Carbondale Terry McCree & wife DeAnna of Amarillo, TX Greg McCree & wife Jayne of Herrin Bryan McCree & wife Corrine of Hyampom, CA MaryLynn Vaughan & husband Randy of Sandston, VA Gary McCree & wife Trudy of Energy Cheryl McCree & her companion Paul Henry of Murphysboro Allen McCree & wife Beth of Crab Orchard Fifteen Great Grandchildren Eight Great Great Grandchildren Sister- Vera Woolard of Herrin Several nieces, nephews and close friends Her parents, husband, grandson- Stan McCree, two brothers- Dwight & Jimmy Alexander and two sisters- Eva Dekum & Pauline Benton preceded her in death. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. Pastor Jerry Schell will officiate. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Friday, December 12, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to Lone Oak Baptist Church and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th/ Herrin, IL 62948.
