Marion- MATILDA S. DETTMER, 100 years old, of Marion, passed away at 6:50am on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Matilda was born in Marion on April 21, 1906 to Henry and Louise (Wickert) Dettmer.
Ms. Dettmer was employed as secretary to the President of the CNA Insurance Company in Chicago, IL. After her retirement she returned to Marion. Her hobbies included reading, all types of crafts, crocheting, and art work. She was a member of the Marion Arts and Crafts Club. Matilda was the oldest member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Marion. She was an active member of the Martha Circle until her health prevented her.
Survivors include five nieces- Helen and Joe D. Linck of Marion, Luetta and Donald Broeking of Marion, Sharon and B.J. Simmons of Marion, Satoe Dahmer of Carbondale, and Charlene Dahmer of Goreville. She is also survived by several great nieces and great nephews.
Ms. Dettmer was preceded in death by her parents, sisters- Ida Dettmer and Emma Dahmer; brothers- August and William Dettmer; niece- Rozetta DeRossett; and nephews- Billy and Leon Dahmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 18, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Kenneth Kramer and Rev. Louis Fluck officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Monday, December 18, 2006 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
