Maxine A. Montgomery

Herrin- Maxine A. Montgomery, 90, of Herrin, passed away at 1:26 PM, Monday, March 10, 2014 at her home in Herrin. Maxine was born on June 9, 1923 in Herrin to Fred and Myrtle (Perrine) Aduddell.  She married Harvey J. Montgomery on October 4, 1941 in Jackson, MO. She and Harvey enjoyed travelling together and had been to each state except Alaska (they booked a trip there but had to cancel prior to Harvey’s death).  He preceded her in death on June 10, 1990.  Maxine was a member of Herrin High School class of 1941.  She retired in 1977 after working several years as activity coordinator at Mattingly Nursing Home in Energy. Mrs. Montgomery was an active member of Herrin First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school worked with Children’s Church, the G.A’s and Senior Adults.  She was also a member of the Herrin Senior Citizens and Delta Theta Tau sorority.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening roses, reading, embroidery and quilting.    Survivors include- Son- Jack Montgomery and wife Nancy of Johnston City Twins-   Dale Montgomery and wife Lavere of Marion                Dana Vaughn and husband Danny of Herrin Five Grandchildren:                 Michael Montgomery and wife Caroline of Johnston City                 Brett Montgomery and wife Linda of Johnston City                 Karen Jones and husband Randy of Marion                 Stephen Vaughn and wife Michele of Herrin                 Susan Kendrick and husband Tony of Herrin Ten Great Grandchildren:                 Grant Montgomery of Johnston City                 Marissa Montgomery and Allen Montgomery of Johnston City                 Zachary and Elijah Jones of Marion                 Morgan and Madisyn Kendrick of Johnston City                 Brandon, Corey and Cameron Vaughn of Herrin Sister in law- Betty Lou Bearden of Herrin Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandchild- Randy Montgomery, great-great grandchild- Braysen Michael Vaughn, one brother- Ray Aduddell and one sister- Lucille Jones. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 14, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  Pastor Paul Tirey will officiate.  Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin.  Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Homein Herrin.  Memorial donations are suggested to Carmi Children's Home and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL   62948.
