April 3, 2005 Obituary Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home PLEASE USE PIC AND RUN AS WRITTEN MAXINE CARTER Herrin- Maxine M. Carter, 86, of Herrin, passed away at 11:40 PM, Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Herrin Hospital. Maxine was born on October 2, 1918 in Harrisburg to Ralph L. & Beulah M. (Scroggins) Whitlock. She married Lloyd Carter on July 16, 1949 in Louisville, KY. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1967. Mrs. Carter worked on diesel engines in Michigan before becoming a Health Care worker. She most recently worked as a nurses aid at Herrin Hospital. She was an active and faithful member of Adams Street Baptist Church in Herrin. When she was able, she enjoyed spending time in her garden. Maxine had a green thumb and could grow and nurture any variety of produce or flower. She also enjoyed collecting, and has an inexhaustible collection of dog figurines. She will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved her. SURVIVORS: Daughter & son in law- Sally & Fred Williford- Herrin Daughter & son in law- Donna & James L. Dunfee- Herrin Son & daughter in law- Ralph & Deanna Carter- Carterville Grandchild- Joe Williford- Herrin Grandchild- Nicole Williford & companion Jason Eddy- Herrin Grandchild- James Dunfee & wife Terra- Herrin Great Grandchildren- Dustin James & Tyler Thomas Dunfee- Herrin Great Grandchild- Wyatt Lee Eddy- Herrin Sister in law- Shelby Whitlock- Eldorado Sister in law- Lane Lester- Steilacoom, WA Several nieces & nephews and many friends She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers & one sister. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service, Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the family or to a charity of the donors choice and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
