Lake of Egypt – Melvin Leverne Haseker, 80, of the Lake of Egypt, passed away on Monday, August 05, 2013 at 12:04 A.M. at his home.
Mel was born July 11, 1933 in Marion the son of Troy and Charity Haseker. He married Georgia Moore on October 25, 1989 in the Chapel of the VA Hospital. She survives of the Lake of Egypt.
He worked for 15 years for Bell Telephone in Chicago and as a private lineman contractor in the Marion and Creal Springs area. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Church, Elks, V.F.W., Eagles and IBEW Local #702. Mel was a disabled Korean War Veteran and he has driven over 10,000 hours for the V.A. Hospital DAV over the last several years.
Survivors include; Wife – Georgia Haseker of the Lake of Egypt Two Daughters; Brenda & Jim Wallis of Marion Judy Haseker of Marion Two Sons; Jimmy & Tammy Haseker of Crab Orchard Billy & Candy Haseker of Freeman Spur Three Step-Daughters; Regina Gibson Hall & Donna of Harrisburg Christina & Nick Cockrum of Simpson Sharon & Mike Stover of Carrier Mills Two Step-Sons; Richard Gibson of the Lake of Egypt Greg & Rachel Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas Sixteen Grandchildren One Great Grandchild Brother – Bobby & Marsha Haseker of Goreville Two Sisters; Melba Lucas Roberta Shrieve Several nieces and nephews
Preceded in death by his Parents.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 1 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills. Military rites will be presented by members of the Marion V.F.W. Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Military Detail Unit. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
