Herrin- Michael J. Chiaventone, 58, passed away at 5:10 PM, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at his home in Herrin.
Mike was born on October 1, 1953 in Herrin to James F. and Delene J. (Marlow) Chiaventone. He married Jetta Rae Elston on June 5, 1976 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin.
He was a Registered Pharmacist who graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1976. He owned and operated Moroni Drugs, Inc., in Herrin for thirty years and most recently worked as a pharmacist at the Walgreens in Herrin.
Mike was a member of the Illinois Pharmacists Association, the Herrin Elks and the Herrin Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Pigeon Inn, golfing, attending SIU basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and horse racing at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY.

Daughter- Kelley Chiaventone Dacus and husband Keith of St. Louis, MO
Daughter- Leslie Chiaventone of Louisville, KY
Grandchildren- Annemarie and Clayton Michael Dacus of St. Louis, MO
Father- James Chiaventone of Herrin
Brother- Pat Chiaventone and wife Carmen of Herrin
Brother- Russell Chiaventone and wife Judy of Herrin
Father-in-law- George Elston of Carbondale
He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as numerous close friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Delene, and grandparents, Joseph and Florence Chiaventone and Emma and Charles Marlow.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday, March 9, 2012, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
