Mike Crabtree

Freeman Spur- Michael Wayne Crabtree, age 59, of Freeman Spur, passed away peacefully at 10:26pm on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at his home in Freeman Spur, with his loving wife and daughter, who were his favorite girls, by his side.  Mike was born in Herrin on May 18, 1956, the son of Luther and Florence (Brewer) Crabtree. He married Patty Reed in Freeman Spur on September 27, 1972.  Together, they have shared 43 years of marriage. Patty survives in Freeman Spur.  Mike was retired from Twin County Farm Services and later worked for Prairie Farms.  He was a member of the VFW in Herrin and a former member of the Fin and Feather Club in Freeman Spur. Mike was an avid rider of four wheelers, side-by-sides, and motorcycles and enjoyed working in his pole barn with his buddy, Chuck. But, the thing he loved most in life was his family. Mike was a loving husband, father, and papa. His family was his world, especially his grandchildren- Kaleb and Kylie, whom he loved with all his heart.  Survivors include his wife- Patty Crabtree of Freeman Spur Daughter and Son-in-law- LeeAnn and Steve Ward of Herrin Two Grandchildren- Kaleb and Kylie Ward of Herrin Sister- Rita and Tom Knight of Michigan Brother- Clint and Murl Crabtree of Herrin Brother- Jeff Crabtree of Cambria Sister- Sue and Lowell Spiller of Mulkeytown Sister- Millie and Keith Holschult of Carbondale Several Nieces and Nephews His Beloved Dogs  The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois, the Herrin VFW, and all family and friends for all the care and compassion shown during this difficult time.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating.  Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.  For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
