Zeigler- Mike Milan Andesilich, age 91 of Zeigler, passed away at 4:07am on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Mike was a World War II Army Veteran, 24th Infantry Division serving in the South Pacific. He made eight amphibious landings under fire, during the war in the Pacific. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star with valor in the liberation of the Philippines.
In 1947 he joined the Bricklayers Union and after 50 years he earned Gold Card Member status in the union.
Mike was always proud that he had been on the Zeigler basketball team that played in the Illinois State Basketball Championship in 1936-37-39.
He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (nee Mendels) for over 55 years. She preceded him in death in 2000. Mike was also preceded in death by his parents Anica and Mileta Andesilich and his brother Dushan Andesilich.
Mike is survived by his sons Michael Andesilich and his wife Toni of Herrin, IL, John Andesilich and his wife Laura of St. Charles, MO and a daughter Christine Pantano and her husband Don of Wanaque ,NJ. Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Per Mikes wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no funeral services. His ashes will be inurned next to his wife at Denning cemetery in Orient.
Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
