Mildred Janet Gay

October 27, 1920 — August 8, 2015

Herrin- Mildred Janet Gay, age 94, of Herrin, formerly of Marion, passed away at 7:22pm on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Herrin Hospital. She had been a resident at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center for the past four years. Mildred was born at Stonefort, Illinois to Robert T. and Eulah B. (Choate) Gay on October 27, 1920. She worked at several jobs but spent her career as a respiratory therapist at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for thirty years. She retired from there in May of 1985 and moved back to Marion. Ms. Gay was a long time member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church near New Burnside. She is survived by her brother- Robert Gay of Marion and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister- Aline Fox, and brother- Lindsey N. Gay. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Ron Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Drake Cemetery, East of Creal Springs. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00pm on Friday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
