Carterville- MILDRED V. WOODSON, age 94, of Carterville, formerly of Herrin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:40am on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Herrin Hospital.
Mildred was born in Herrin on January 3, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Martha (King) Bird. She married Orville Daffron, who preceded her in death on October 29, 1933. She later married Richard Dick Woodson on April 10, 1936 in Marion. They shared twenty years of marriage until his death on March 13, 1956.
Mildred and her husband owned and operated Woodsons Grocery in Herrin from 1936-1957. She was a retired beautician having owned Sue-Rue-Lous Beauty Shop in Herrin, which was named after her three daughters middle names.
Mildred was a member of the Herrin First Baptist Church and was a past member of several Herrin organizations. She was an avid bowler, gardener and dancer and enjoyed playing cards. Mildred loved her family dearly. She loved and had tremendous faith in her Lord and Savior. She was an inspiration to her daughters and to everyone that knew and loved her. Mildred was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers- Wiley and Eugene Bird; three sisters- Edith Shaw, Mary Ellen Wassinger, and Faye McGoldrick-Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Brad Harlow and Rev. Dwayne Sheumaker will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
