Marion Mollie K. Chornak, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2:16 P.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center after a short illness with cancer. Mollie was born December 2, 1927 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the daughter of James and Mae Hogg. She married Frank Chornak on May 25, 1947 in Piggott, Arkansas, and together they shared over 64 years of marriage. He survives her. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion and accepted the Lord as her Savior on May 21, 1939 at the age of 11. She enjoyed working in the church library. Mollie retired from the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Marion, in Office Operations in 1990. She had worked as an Executive Secretary for different organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed being with family and friends, reading, fishing, playing games, traveling, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She especially enjoyed spending holidays and special occasions with her family. Survivors include her husband, two children, son Mike Chornak and daughter Kathy Dallas and husband Mark of Marion; four grandchildren Marcy and Brax Dallas, Collin and Sydney Chornak; one sister Clarebel Gray of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and several dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Hammons, and her brother Bill Hogg. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 8 P.M. at the funeral home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Marions First Baptist Church Music Ministry. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, IL 62959.
