Herrin- Morris Henry Hays, 82, passed away at 9:l5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2001 at Herrin Hospital.
He was born September 28, 1919 in West Frankfort, IL to Okley and Sylvia (Baugh) Hays.
He married Evelyn Misker on March 28, 1939 in Charleston, MO. She died July l3, 1991.
One son, William F. Hays, MD of Herrin, survives him. Two daughters in law, Pam Hays and Ramona Hays both of Herrin, seven grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Morris Henry "Hank" Hays, II, grandchildren, Holly Ann Hays and Morris Henry (Trey) Hays III, one brother Bill J. Hayes and three sisters, Frieda Hays, Edith "Gig" Hays and Helen Frailey.
Mr. Hays was a graduate of West Frankfort Community High School where he was an outstanding athlete and attended Southern Illinois University. He served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific as a technical sergeant during WW II and was decorated with Asiatic Pacific ribbon with three battle stars.
He was owner of Hays Chevrolet Company and Hays Insurance Agency in Herrin for the majority of his life. He was an avid golfer. He bowled regularly on several teams. He served as county chairman with the American Cancer Society for many years and was past president of the Herrin Jaycees and Herrin Rotary Club, he was a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Herrin and board of directors of the Herrin Chamber of Commerce, affiliated and held offices in several organizations related to the automotive industry.
He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion and V. F. W. He was a Mason. He served at the Herrin Hospital Auxiliary for several years. He was the Grand Marshall of the first Herrin Loyalty Day Parade and he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herrin.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Chaplain Glenn Sanders will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy with full military rites by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts.
Memorials may be made to Shawnee Christian Nursing Home, Herrin Hospital Auxiliary Fund, American Caner Society, American Heart Association, Herrin Junior Ball League or any area high school golf team.
