Mr. Bobby Johnson

Freeman Spur- Bobby G. Johnson, 66, of Freeman Spur, passed away at 8:45 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his home. Bobby was born on September 4, 1949 in Herrin to Howard Eugene and Evelyn (Green) Johnson. He graduated high school, went to college and then entered the United States Army and served his country overseas during the Vietnam War. Once honorably discharged, he returned home to southern Illinois and began a career with Amerigas and then a long career as a heavy equipment operator for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He worked many years at the Carbondale office and later retired from the West Frankfort office. Despite being retired he still worked as a fishing guide at Rend Lake. He enjoyed crappie fishing and riding his Honda Trike around southern Illinois. He was a member of the Freeman Spur American Legion Post and the Fin and Feather Club in Freeman Spur. Survivors include- Son- Robert Johnson and wife Linda of Johnston City Grandson- Zackerie Johnson of Johnston City Brother- Howard Dale Johnson of Freeman Spur Brother- David Lee Johnson of Goreville Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins Caregiver- Paula Nolen of Plumfield He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 19, 2016 at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Don Colson and Rev. David Dyer will officiate. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Post Ritual Team with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Funeral services were arranged at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
