Mrs. Gayle Clark

February 9, 1922 — September 1, 2013

Mrs. Gayle Clark, 91, of Pittsburg, went to be with the Lord at 11:35 a.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at her home surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Oasis Community Church of the Nazarene, 2101 McHaney Road, Harrisburg, Illinois at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, with Dr. James Flanagan officiating, assisted by Rev. Bryant Harris, Dr. Brent Clark and the Rev. Gary Clark.  Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion, Illinois.  Visitation will be held at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home from 5 – 9 p.m. Friday and again from 10 – 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Oasis Community Church of the Nazarene Landscaping Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church. Mrs. Clark was born February 9, 1922, in Corinth, Illinois to Guy E. Roberts and Vernia (McCain) Roberts.  She was married to Rev. Vernell Clark on May 14, 1944, at Zion Methodist Church in Corinth, Illinois. She is survived by one son, Rev. Gary Clark and wife Peggy of Pittsburg, IL; a daughter Nancy Clark Wells and husband Rev. Gene Wells of Somerset, KY; five grandchildren, Dr. Brent Clark and wife Kathy of Pittsburg, Andrea Clark Harris and husband Rev. Bryant Harris of Sesser, IL; Gregory Wells and wife Andrea of Science Hill, KY; Sarah Wells Webb and husband Kevin of Chattanooga, TN; Justin Wells and wife Angie of St. Louis, MO; and seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Emery Roberts, two sisters, Juanita Roberts and Glorine Livingston, and her husband, the late Rev. Vernell Clark. Mrs. Clark was a devoted pastor’s wife for over 60 years of ministry, a loving kindhearted mother, and a wonderful homemaker.  One eternity will reflect the many lives that were touched by her Godly influence.
