Mrs. Lela Fern Wade

Herrin- Lela Fern Wade, 90, of Herrin, passed away at 1:06 PM, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Herrin Hospital. Lela was born on January 12, 1923 in Corinth to Lonzo and May (Baker) Edwards.  She married James “Jimmy” Wade on November 21, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, MO.  He preceded her in death on August 17, 1993. Prior to retirement, Lela worked several years sewing seats at Allen Industries in Herrin and before that she worked the garment line at Smoller Brothers also in Herrin.  She was a member of Herrin First Christian Church and a former member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her great grandchildren, sewing, and bowling and had even recently tried to go fishing again.  She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include- Son- Larry B. Wade and wife Gloria of West Frankfort Two grandchildren: Kimberly Peterson and husband Aron of Carterville Jason Wade of Johnston City Five great grandchildren; including- Bridgett Haryono and husband Adi of Herrin and James Peterson of Carterville Four great great grandchildren Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Janet Fisher, one brother and three sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.  Pastor Tod Parchman will officiate.  Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Southpoint Church of God in West Frankfort and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th ST/ Herrin, IL  62948.
