Marilyn Jane Childers

Marion- Marilyn Jane Childers, 80, of Marion, passed away at 5:46 PM, Monday, May 25, 2015 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Marilyn was born on October 7, 1934 in Marion to Orel and Maggie (McInturff) Turner.    She grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School where she was a cheerleader. She worked for 22 years as a teacher’s assistant for the behaviorally disturbed at Marion Unit #2 Schools.  She retired in 2000. Marilyn was a lifelong member of Marion First Baptist Church.  She enjoyed driving around looking at scenery, dancing with her friends, watching her television shows and staying at home caring for her animals.  She taught her beloved bird, “Pretty Bird”, how to speak many different words and phrases.   She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Survivors include- Son- Dr. Kevin Jay Childers and wife Patricia of Vandalia Son- Dr. Kyle Ray Childers and wife Dr. Deidre Childers of Marion Seven grandchildren:                Holly Newcom and husband Aaron of Edwardsville                Bonnie Misselhorn and husband Clint of Carterville                Maggie Childers of Charleston                Mason Childers of Marion                Kate Childers of Marion                Alec Childers of Marion                Tessa Childers of Marion Great Grandchildren:                Lincoln and Sullivan Misselhorn of Carterville                Clark Newcom of Edwardsville One niece and nephew Several close friends She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchild- Valerie Childers and one brother- Paul Turner. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.  Dr. Bob Dickerson will officiate.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.  Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service, Wednesday, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home/ 800 N.
