Mrs. Wilma Omedia Cox

Herrin- Wilma “Omedia” Cox- 93, of Herrin, passed away at 10:10 AM, Monday, September 7, 2015 at Herrin Hospital. Omedia was born on March 22, 1922 in Royalton to George “Griff” and Charity Leona (Harris) Bradshaw. She married Dalton E. Cox on October 11, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2005. She began working as the cook at the Lymar Hotel in Herrin for several years and then as a cook for Chittyville Grade School for many years before retiring off of the munitions line at Olin Matheson. She was a talented cook and made excellent chicken and dumplings and chocolate gravy and biscuits. She enjoyed travelling to various locations during her lifetime and as a result of growing up and around farms, she developed a keen marksmanship with a .22 rifle. She was a Christian woman who was a lifelong member of the Royalton Nazarene Church, but was a faithful attendee of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. Olkoski and wife Suzan of Herrin Brent Cox and wife Toni of Swink, CO Shawn Cox and wife Kimberly of Herrin Bryce Cox and wife Ashley of Herrin Matt Dial and wife Kathleen of Clearmont, FL Laura Aul of Lakeland, FL Jeff Shadowens of Virginia 15 Great Grandchildren: Ashlie & Kelsie Olkoski of Royalton Timmy Peterson of Evansville, IN Sarah and Kayla Olkoski of Herrin Shay and Heather Olkoski of Lexington, KY Danica Cox of Swink, CO Chesney and Autumn Cox of Herrin Gavin Gonzales of Herrin Hannah, Seth and Zachary Dial of Clearmont, FL Will Cox of Herrin Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandchild- Jimmy Shadowens, great grandchild- Branson Hewlett, two sisters- Louis Lasley and Pansy Dial and one brother- Condon Bradshaw. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor David Dyer and Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/201 South 13th St. / Herrin, IL 62948.
