Herrin- Naomi Bonnie (Hayes) Oldham, 92, passed away, Sunday, February 29, 2004, 5:30 p.m., at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. She was born October 24, 1911, in Corinth Township, Williamson County, Illinois, to Geo. W. and Grace Ethel (Barlow) Hayes. She married Charlie Lillich in June of 1928 in Harrisburg. They had four children. He died November 4, 1950. She married Roy Woodis in December of 1956 in Herrin. He died in January of 1962. She then married Roland Olie Oldham, on November 10, 1967, in Johnston City. He died January 1, 2004. Naomi worked several years as a professional cook at the LyMar Hotel and in her own cafeteria. She also worked at the General Assistance Office in Marion and for her daughters at Gwens Stout Shop in Herrin. Survivors include: Daughter Charlene Lillich of Herrin Daughter and son-in-law Gwen and John Handegan of Paducah, Kentucky Step-daughter and her husband Rita and Neil Newport of Minot, North Dakota Granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jodi and Pat Doughty of Phoenix, Arizona Granddaughter and grandson-in-law Krista and Paul Wood of Paducah, Kentucky Granddaughter and grandson-in-law Tracy and Steve Wille of Chandler, Arizona Granddaughter, Letitia Carneghi of Springfield, Illinois Grandson, Marc Carneghi of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Grandson, Jerry Handegan of Los Angeles, California Grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Michael and Michele Handegan of Murray, KY Step-grandchildren: Brenda Newport of Indiana and Cheryl and Shane Newport of Minot, ND Four great-granddaughters, Cortney Dillman of Chandler, Arizona; Kiersten and husband Joshua Summers of Phoenix, Arizona; Paige Doughty of Phoenix, Arizona and Amanda Handegan of Murray, Kentucky Four great-grandsons, David Fow of Lexington, Kentucky, Tyler Dillman and wife Kristi of Phoenix, Arizona, Bruster Tunell of Paducah, Kentucky, and Mitchell Handegan of Murray, Kentucky Two step-great-grandsons Stephen and Jeremy Wood of Lexington, Kentucky Three great-great grandsons, Ayden Peterson, Keegan Montgomery and Ethan Peterson, all of Phoenix, Arizona One great-great granddaughter, Kiersten Tunell, of Paducah, Kentucky Sister, Erma Hayes, brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Loretta Hayes, two nephews, Steven and David Hayes, all from Marion Sister-in-law Alleene Meadors of Sardis, Tennessee Special friend Vi Griffith of Herrin Her parents, her husbands, a daughter, Lou Ann Smothers, a son, Davie Lee Lillich, a son-in-law, J.C. Smothers, and a stepson, Jerry Wayne Oldham, preceded her in death. The family wishes to thank those at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center who were especially sweet to her and who she came to love, Dr. Promote, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and Chaplain Glenn Sanders, who helped with all that was needed. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Glenn Sanders will officiate. Burial will follow at Dillingham (Shed) Cemetery, near her birthplace (east of Johnston City). Visitation will be from 12 Noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Naomi will be remembered for her beautiful gardens, her wonderful cooking and her love for her family. She was a very special person who was loved by many and will be missed by all.
