Herrin-Opal Marie Vick, 88, died 4:53 P.M., Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Herrin Hospital. Opal Marie was born May 20, 1915 in Carbondale to Robert Asa & Ollie Mae (Hagler) Blankenship. She married George Richard Vick on September 14, 1935 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1991. Opal Marie was a member of Union Gospel Mission Church in Herrin. She was also a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She made many afghans and baby clothes. Survivors Include: Son & Daughter In Law: Richard E. & Jo Ann Vick of Herrin Son & Daughter In Law: Kenneth W. & Glenda Vick of Marion Five Grandchildren: Debbie Jarrell & husband Glenn of Wichita, KS. Richard E. Vick, Jr. & wife Lisa of Marion Mellonee Hass & husband Jerry of Zion, IL. Kendra Vick of Zion, IL. Marleah Fuente & husband Mickey of Zion, IL. Nine Great Grandchildren Three Great Great Grandchildren Sister: Genevieve Childers of St. Louis, MO. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter; Minnie Opal Vick, great grandson; Robert Wayne Swanson, sister; Juanita P. Wright, and brother; Richard Blankenship. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
