Opal R. Stephenson

April 13, 1925 — April 28, 2015

Opal R. Stephenson, 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 4:05 am at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Opal was born April 13, 1925 in Williamson County the daughter of Segal and Ava (Beers) Lollar.    She married Charles M. Stephenson on August 19, 1944 in Marion and together they shared over 64 years of marriage until his death on April 5, 2009. Opal was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her beloved family.  She performed many roles throughout her lifetime.  What her family treasures most are their fond memories of going to her house for weekly family gatherings with lots of good food prepared by her loving hands.  There was never a stranger entered her door.  Everyone was treated like family.  We will never forget the happy times of fellowship and laughter.  She will always be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was member of Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include- Son & daughter in law- Charles L. & Ginny Stephenson of Marion Daughter- Sharon Mandrell of Marion Son & daughter in law- Dale & Philecia Stephenson of Marion Daughter in law- Sherry Stephenson of Pittsburg Six Grandchildren: Bryann Stephenson & wife Michelle of Marion Lisa Mandrell of Santa Clara, California Chris Mandrell of Marion Andria Murrah & husband Brian of Pittsburg Jerod Stephenson & wife Cassidy of Marion Keri Edwards & Fiancé  Jesse Hodge of Marion Ten Great grandchildren; Cody Stephenson & Cegan Stephenson Carson, Ethan and  Nolan Murrah Jacob,  Joshua & Jaxon Edwards Caleb & Corey Stephenson Sister- Anna Mae Motsinger of Crab Orchard Several nieces & nephews Preceded by her Parents, Husband – Charles, Son – Donald Stephenson, Son-in-law – Terry Mandrell, Daughter-in-law – Judy Stephenson, Brother – Jewel Lollar, Sister-in-law – Mary H. Lollar, Brother-in-law – Lawrence Motsinger. Funeral services will be Friday, May 1, 2015 at 2 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Roper and Rev. Eddie Donelson officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant-Poordo Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 – 8 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant-Poordo Cemetery Fund.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
