ORIE C. ABSHER, age 90, of Marion, passed away at 2:19am on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 2:19 am at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy. Orie was born May 17, 1928 in Williamson County the son of John Ransom and Kate (Beers) Absher. He married Ina Mae Brush on June 10, 1956 in Williamson County and together they shared over 59 years of marriage until her death on September 25, 2015. He served his country while enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict.  He fueled vehicles at various bases within the United States.  Once honorably discharged, he returned home and began a long career as a truck driver; first for Mayflower Transit, next as a US Mail bus driver; he drove a bus which was used to sort mail between different locations and then lastly he retired from ABF Trucking in Chatham, Illinois. He was a longtime member and former deacon of Chatham Baptist Church near Springfield, Illinois.  He was a personable man who rarely met a stranger.  He had some great conversations recently with former Governor Rauner while he was staying at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his; Twin Daughters; Sandy Pennell (Kevin) of Springfield, Illinois Candy Acree (Gene) of New Berlin, Illinois Five grandchildren; Prescott Walker of Iwakuni, Japan Bennett Walker (Catelyn) of Yokosuka, Japan Jacob Clark of Normal, Illinois Wyatt Clark of Elgin AFB, Florida Jayce Acree of New Berlin, Illinois One great grandchild - Theodore Walker of San Diego, California Preceded by his Parents, Wife – Ina, Two children – Terry Lee Absher, Vonda Lynn Absher, Six brothers and Two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Milton Bost officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be presented by members of the Marion VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and the Air Force Flag Detail Unit. A time of visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N Market Street; Marion, IL 62959.
