Herrin- OTIS RAY CALLISS, age 67, of Herrin, passed away at 9:58am on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Herrin Hospital. Otis was born in Herrin on April 22, 1945, the son of William and Agnes (Harris) Calliss. He married Ruth Ann Jones in Herrin on June 18, 1966. Together, they have shared forty-six years of marriage. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Calliss was a devoted member of the Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, and bible study leader. He enjoyed golfing, but his true love was his family and his church. Otis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Survivors include his loving wife- Ruth Ann Calliss of Herrin Three daughters- Michele and Bill Schneider of Mount Pulaski, IL Susan and Dax Griffith of Vandenberg Air Force Base, California Amy Calliss of Herrin Five grandchildren- Kaitlin, Mikaila, and Joshua Griffith of Vandenberg Air Force Base, California Ian and Aidan Schneider of Mount Pulaski, IL Two brothers- William and Phyllis Calliss of Washington, IL Dennis and Brenda Calliss of Marion, IL Sister- Cathy and Jim Feretich of Herrin Brother-in-law- John and Donna Jones of Herrin Sister-in-law- Mary Jane Jones of Herrin Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Brad Harlow and Rev. Jeff Gee officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
