Ovalee Smith, 94, formerly of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at her home in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Ovalee was born on August 16, 1917 to Ben and Ada Lee (Dunn) Dodd-Harvey. She married Samuel Paul Smith on September 10, 1939 and was married for 42 years before he proceeded her in death in 1982. She lived and worked in Marion before moving to Panama City Beach, Florida in 2006 to be near family. She was a member of Third Baptist Church, Marion, IL, involved in senior activities prior to her move, and attended First Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida.
Survivors include three sons; Sam (Glatha) Smith, Evansville, IN, Michael (Brenda) Smith, Panama City Beach, FL, Jeffrey (Brenda) Smith, Mentor, OH; five grandchildren; Deneen (Rollie) Bruner, Lexington, KY, Christopher (Tammy) Smith, Ozark, AL, Eric (Polly) Smith, San Diego, CA, Andrea (Charlie) Howard, Evansville, IN; Samantha Smith, Mentor, OH; four great-grandchildren; Katelyn West, Mattie and Molly Howard, Caroline Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband, sisters, Imajean Thomas, Beulah Fowler and Opal Morris, brother, Lloyd Thomas, and sisters-in-law, Opal Pemberton, Ruth Farris and Lorene Shelton.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, IL with John Howat and Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
