Paul D. Atkins

Marion Paul D. Atkins, 76, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 2:44 A.M. at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Paul was born February 16, 1931, the son of Harmon C. & Shirley (James) Atkins in Turkey Creek, Kentucky. He married Shelby Jean Hunley on April 16, 1954 in Turkey Creek, Kentucky and together they have shared over 53 years of marriage. She survives in Marion. Pauls working career included Olin and Acme Machinery. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Crab Orchard Lake Bass Club; he loved the Kentucky Wildcats and the St. Louis Cardinals. But most of all Paul loved his family and grandchildren. Paul was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include: Wife Shelby Atkins of Marion Son Doug E. Atkins and wife Sandi of Goreville Daughter Paula K. Hutchins and husband Steven of Carterville Daughter Patricia A. Atkins of Johnston City Nine Grandchildren; Jonah, Jacob and Gabriel Atkins Justin, Garrett Gass Shelby Atkins Heather, Jamie and Lacey Hutchins Brother Oscar T. Atkins of Turkey Creek, Kentucky Preceded by Parents, Brother, Kyle E. Atkins. Funeral services will be Monday, February 18, 2008 at 12:30 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and the National Guard unit.
