October 8, 2002 Obituary Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home PAUL E. SMITH Marion- Paul E. Smith, 63, of Marion, died at 3:30 PM, Monday, October 7, 2002 at Marion Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith was born on April 16, 1939 in Marion to Cecil & Lola Luella (Brown) Smith. He married Linda S. Yearack on December 30, 1991 in Paducah, KY. She survives of Marion. Paul was a self-employed carpenter. He truly enjoyed helping others and volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity and building and striking sets for the Paradise Alley Players in Marion. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. He served on the property committee of the church and in his spare time Paul enjoyed going to auctions and antiquing. He collected antique toy cars and trucks. SURVIVORS: Wife- Linda Allen- Marion Mother- Lola Luella Smith- Herrin Four sons: Stephen Smith Jim Smith Mike Smith Scott Smith Step-Daughter & son in law- Linley & Rev. Robert Scott- Pekin Step-Daughter & son in law- Robin & Greg Scott- Jacksonville, FL Special Friend that Paul thought of as a daughter- Kathy Rossi- Chicago Sister & brother in law- Tootie & Bill Hermetz- Johnston City Nephew- Todd & wife Amber Hermetz- Marion Niece- Kelly & husband Jason Shelby- Johnston City Great Nieces & nephews: Garrett Hermetz- Marion Barilynn Shelby- Johnston City He was preceded in death by his father & one brother; Cecil LeRoy Smith. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. The Revs. Dan Whitfield and Robert Scott will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held from 5-9:00 PM, Friday, October 11, 2002 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2002 at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Habitat for Humanity, or the Marion Medical Mission and will be accepted at the funeral home.
