Marion- Paul J. Houghton, 100, of Marion, died at 7:30 A.M., Friday, October 19, 2001 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Mr. Houghton was born on August 24, 1901 in Atlanta, IL to John B. & Parrie (Hieronymus) Houghton. He married Louisa Borum on November 2, 1929 in Nashville, IL. She survives of Marion.
He was a member of First united Methodist Church of Marion. He had a long and distinguished career coaching at Marion and Anna Jonesboro. He was one of very few to be inducted in the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame for both football and basketball. After 22 years of coaching and teaching, he moved into administration in 1949. He spent the last sixteen years of his career as a successful school administrator. Upon his retirement he moved back to Marion in 1966 and was active in many organizations. As a result he was awarded the lifetime achievement award in 1986 by the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Edgar & Eldon Houghton.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Melva England will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 PM, Monday, October 22, 2001 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
