Paul Junior Neber, 93, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at 1:58 pm at his home in Marion.
Paul was born August 20, 1925 in Wolfe Creek the son of Paul N. and Linnie Afton (Mann) Neber. He married Hattie Roma Manier on July 7, 1945 in Marion and together they shared over 59 years of marriage until her death on September 28, 2004.
He was a Christian and a member of the Saline Masonic Lodge in Goreville and the United Mine Workers of America. Paul was a US Army Veteran who served his country courageously during the battle of the bulge in WWII. He was taken prisoner while delivering troops and was held as a prisoner of war overseas for many years. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and began a career as a mechanic at the Chevy garage in Marion and then as a mechanic for his own business, Neber & Strickland. He finally retired as a Temple Operator for AMAX Coal. Even retired, he continued farming and raising cattle on his family's land. He loved all animals, big and small. Such was his love that as his eyesight began to fail, he was once spotted spoon feeding a litter of skunks which he thought were kittens.
