Herrin- Pearl King, 93, of Herrin, formerly of Zeigler, passed away at 9:15 AM, Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Herrin Hospital. Pearl was born on September 1, 1918 in Stearns, KY to Nimrod R. and Janie (Benson) Ross. She married Walter King on August 21, 1937. They shared seventy one years together before he preceded her in death on April 19, 2009. She formerly worked as a factory employee in the Ordill area and at Herrin Hospital before retiring in 1973 after working many years in the sewing department of Smoler Bros in Herrin. She was a very active and longtime member (50 years) of the Herrin First Pentecostal Church. She performed just about every duty within the church. Her desire was to serve God and to do his work. She enjoyed reading her Bible, fishing and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed canning vegetables and travelling with her husband to Florida, Texas and Kentucky. After her retirement she made more than 270 quilts for her family and loved ones. Survivors include- Son- Frank King of Dunnellon, FL Son- Kenneth King and wife Carol of Zeigler Daughter- Mildred King of Herrin Seven Grandchildren: Mark Franklin King Vicky King Walter Eugene King Kevin Eugene King Jeffrey B. King Andrew King Michael King Nine Great Grandchildren Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother- Lonzo Ross and sisters- Goldie Culison, Maggie Justice, Carrie King, Eva Clark, and Gladys Buyers. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 23, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
