HERRIN - Peggy Jeanne (Bailie) Lindsay, 91, of Herrin, peacefully went to be with her Lord at 11:21 PM, Friday, September 23, 2011 at Herrin Hospital with family at her side. Peggy was born on November 21, 1919 in Herrin to James M. Pop and Nona Sugar (Stroud) Bailie. She married Samuel Leroy Lindsay on September 7, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1990. Peggy graduated from Herrin High School in 1938. She was a devoted homemaker and the secretary/accountant in her husbands family business - S.O. Lindsay and Sons Moving, Coal & Storage Service. She was formally trained to use oil tints to colorize black & white photographs for the Illinois State Dept of Parks & Recreation. These tinted Park scenes are displayed across the State of Illinois. She grew up & was always an active member of the Herrin First Presbyterian Church. She also served as a volunteer for the Herrin Hospital Auxiliary for many years. In her later years she mentored students, which brought her much pride & joy and benefited her community. Survivors include her son Barry Lindsay and wife Marianne (McEvers) Lindsay of Byron, GA; daughter- Lynn Bailie Lindsay Ramsey and husband David, Aurora, CO; granddaughter Michelle Lynn (Lindsay) Rumer, Little Elm, TX; grandson, J. Bryan Ramsey, Denver, CO; grandson Christopher Bruce Ramsey, Denver, CO; great grandchild Jeremy Cecil Sellers, Little Elm TX; nephews Steve Bailie, Marion and James Bailie, Surprise, AZ; and niece Wendy Bailie, Carterville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother James M. Bailie, sister-in-law Jean (Green) Bailie, sister-in-law Verna Lee Bailie, and two nephews, Timothy Bailie and Jay Martin Bailie. Her brother Joyce D. Bailie of Herrin passed away just 6 days after Peggy on September 29, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin with the Rev. Ron Henwood & the Rev G. Thomas Hobson officiating the service. A reception will follow immediately at First Presbyterian Church social hall A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948. Envelopes will be available at the Memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church & at the reception.
