Colp-Phyllis Jeannean Staton-74 died 1:00 Monday, July 19, 2004 at her residence. She was born February 25, 1930 in Colp to John & Kathleen (Melroy) Bell. She married Robert Staton on February 14, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas. He survives. Jeannean was retired from Herrin Maytag in 1996 after 50 years of factory work. She began her career with Sangamon Company in the 1940s. She was of the Methodist Faith. Jeanneanss quiet and modest presence will be missed by her family and friends. Because of her humility and desire to always remain anonymous, her lifelong generosity & giving spirit to others will never fully be known, but because of her, many otherwise unfortunate people and animals were made more comfortable. Whether it was a gift turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, a prom dress for a teen, or a free spay/neuter for a pet, she was always behind the scenes providing for others. Survivors Include: Five Nieces: Candy Thomas & husband Bill of Carterville Sharon DeZutti of Long Beach, CA. Kristi Hickman of Long Beach, CA. Melody Kerley & husband John of Herrin Crystal Causey of Anna Great Nieces: Brooke Banks of Herrin Autumn Dilbeck of Johnston City Belle Hickman of Long Beach, CA. Great Nephew: Aarron Messina of Vienna Sister In Law: Betty Staton of Marion Cousins: Marlene Koerner of Herrin Tommy Freeman of Sesser Donna Hardcastle of Herrin Kathy Lively of Herrin Jeff Robinson of Herrin Linda Foster of Springfield, IL. Beloved Dog: Buster She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Delores DeZutti, two brother in laws, Melvin Staton and Jimmie DeZutti, several cousins, aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
