Herrin- James Randall “Randy" Strunk, 72, passed away at 11:50 PM, Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
Randy was born on March 11, 1946 in Herrin to James Coolidge and Betty (McMullen) Strunk. He was a courageous veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked on guidance systems for the United States Air Force.
After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he began a career with Midwest Brush Service but was retired from the butcher shop of the Carbondale Wal-Mart.
Randy was a member of the Herrin Veterans of Foreign Wars, Musket Loaders Club and the Bass Club. He had a vast collection of Native American artifacts that he discovered over many years. He was a St. Louis Cardinals Fan and a lover of all genres of music, especially classic rock. He was a quiet man who meant what he said and led a simple life that included time spent outdoors fishing and bow hunting for deer. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by the Herrin and Carterville VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the United States Air Force. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
